Wikipedia suggests the school was established in 1959 (based on the date of its 50th anniversary event) however the school's badge was published in Bunty in 1958 ! Presumably the school actually opened in September 1958 so 2009 would still be in its 50th anniversary year.

It is stated that it was a middle school for many years, known as Ridgeway Middle School. In December 2012 the school converted to academy status and was renamed Ridgeway Academy. In 2016 the school expanded its age range to admit pupils from the age 11, thereby becoming a secondary school. The school was then renamed Ridgeway Secondary School in September 2020

The school has kept the 1958 badge design.
