Canton High School for Girls was previously known as the Municipal Secondary School for Girls.

Canton Municipal Secondary School opened in Market Road, Canton, Cardiff, in 1907 in buildings now occupied by Chapter Arts Centre. Its first pupils were transferred from Howard Gardens Municipal Secondary School with two masters W J Merritt and Mr Thomas. The first headmaster was Walter Brockington, former head of Radnor Road School since 1888. The school was extended in 1927 with the addition of new laboratories, a gymnasium and handicrafts department. The school name was changed in 1933 to Canton High School for Boys. In 1941 it was hit by a bomb which destroyed parts of the school, the recently installed organ, and some of the school records. The school was not restored completely until September 1951. The school left Canton in Sep 1962 for a new site in Fairwater. It came under the comprehensive system in 1970 when its name was again changed to Cantonian High School. The girls' school was initially housed in Llanover Hall, in Romilly Road, before amalgamation with the boys in 1962.

Llanover Hall is presently used as an arts centre.
