Bridgend Boys' Grammar School merged with Heol Gam Secondary School on 1 September 1971 to form Brynteg Comprehensive School with Heol Gam serving as the lower school and the old Boys' Grammar school serving as the upper school.
The girls' school opened as Bridgend Intermediate School in Morfa Street (now Penybont Primary School) in September 1896.
