Whitburn Secondary Modern School became Whitburn Comprehensive School. The school received a major upgrade funded by the Church of England moving to an adjacent plot in the existing school grounds and renamed to Whitburn Church of England school. It has now received academy status when it was again renamed as Whitburn Church of England Academy.
