Market Drayton Grammar School was founded in 1555 by Sir Rowland Hill however this was finally closed by the County Council in 1909. In 1910 a new County Grammar School opened on the Mountfields. The school closed in 1965 when a new Comprehensive school opened in the town (Grove) and the buildings were demolished in 1997 to make way for new housing.
