George Street School was established by the Provincial Committee on the Training of Teachers as a Practising School for trainee teachers.
On the transfer of the School to the management of Aberdeen School Board in August 1909, the School catered for 900 elementary and Higher Grade pupils. George Street School closed on 30 June 1939 and the pupils were transferred to Skene Square, Causewayend, St Paul Street, Sunnybank and Kittybrewster Schools.
George Street School was also known as the "Normal School", the "Practising School" or the "Demonstration School".
