Established in 1950 at Gowans Terrace in a post-war prefabricated structure of a type that had not previously been used for any large school in Scotland. The school relocated to its present location, Oakbank Rd, Perth PH1 1HB, in 1971.

Perth Grammar School was built on the site adjacent to the former High School originally having taenk over the prefabricated High School buildings on the Gowans Terrace in 1971.

The badge design is still in use.
