The school became Player Comprehensive School which closed on 31 August 1992. The building was subsequently used for teacher training and as a pupil referral unit where children with behavioural challenges were sent known as the Denewood Centre. This was demolished c.2015 to make way for for housing and two new schools, the Jubilee LEAD Academy and the Brocklewood Primary School, as well as the Beechdale Manor Care Home.
