St. Aeldred's Roman Catholic School, at first known as Fifth Avenue Temporary School, opened in 1929 in Fifth Avenue, Tang Hall Estate. This school provided accommodation for 100 infants and was used until the permanent building adjacent to it was opened in 1932. The new building provided accommodation for 300 juniors and infants; in 1938 the average attendance was 267. The school was an aided primary school in 1956 and there were 270 children enrolled.
