This bridge is located on the outskirts of Scarborough. Some readers may wonder why this bridge deserves a special page to itself, I’ll explain. My summer holidays were spent at the site of the bomb damaged house pictured below after it was rebuilt, and the path by the railway bridge where people are watching the bomb damage repairs taking place was where I used to waive at the passing trains in my formative years. (The house is a couple of hundred yards from the bridge.) |
The photograph below shows the ‘damage’ caused in 2001 by installing a new lower bridge to make the nearby road junction with Manor Road easier to negotiate. You will also see that the track bed is now diverted at this point, something the German bomber failed to achieve in 1941. To some, it would seem short sighted to block the actual rail route here should reinstatement ever be envisaged. |
