Trailway Watch |
This page has been created to report on what is currently happening to the route of the former railway, presently being used as a footpath/cycleway. |
Should it ever be decided to reinstate the Scarborough to Whitby railway line it needs to be kept free of obstacles. To date, not many obstacles have been created but the odd planning approval here and there by Scarborough Borough Council could quickly change things. |
|
Present obstacles noted, in route order are: |
1. |
Supermarket located at the site of Gallows Close yard. |
2. |
Recent bridge works at Woodlands Ravine, lowering the clearance under the bridge. |
3. |
Scalby station and environs now a housing estate. |
4. |
Two bridges demolished over roads, one beside Fyling Hall station, another near Robin Hoods Bay. |
5. |
A171 road bridge over track near Hawsker removed. |
|
Strangely the former track bed is undergoing the process of electrification at the moment. This has led to the path being closed at various locations periodically. Those using the path as an off road cycle route are being forced onto nearby roads, some of which are very busy, and for those unfamiliar with the route-probably most holiday makers-no diversion signs are displayed. |
